History of the Sauna Cabin

Art Palmquist bought this cabin in 1964 and moved it from a farm near Minocqua, Wisconsin. It started out as a very basic one-room cabin, but soon the Palmquist family added the private Finnish sauna, bathrooms, and back bedroom.

For many years, this cabin contained the only sauna on The Farm, and guests took turns using it during the busy winter months. In 1977, Jim Palmquist built the Big Sauna so that more guests could enjoy this old Finnish tradition, making the sauna inside the Sauna Cabin much more private and desirable.
